CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS COMPETE IN BAGLEY.
On Tuesday, September 20, the Clearbrook-Gonvick Cross Country team participated in the Bagley CC Invitational. This was a huge meet with over 20 teams from around the area participating, including some very large schools that are not in our section. It was a difficult course with lots of rolling hills that tested the runners endurance and mental toughness.
In the boys Junior High race Gabe LaVine continued his string of impressive performances by placing 9th out of 140 runners with a time of 12:34. John DeVries put forth a great effort to place 81st with a time of 14:59.
In the girls Junior High race Jennifer Lavin again ran a strong race and placed 10th out of 80 girls with a time of 14:54. Coach Lavin said that the junior highers really did a great job against some of the bigger schools in the area. “They showed that even though we are a small school we can compete with the bigger schools in the area.”
In the girls Junior Varsity race Jackie Lynn ran a solid race and had a strong finish to end up 6th out of 39 runners with a time of 24:05. Arabella Corey ran her best race of the year to finish 25th with a personal best of 27:43.
In the boys Junior Varsity race Ben Engebretson ran very strong to finish 11th out of 71 runners with a time of 20:23. Joshua Lavin ran his best race, passing numerous runners over the 3 mile course to place 31st with a time of 21:42. Coach Lavin said that Jackie Lynn, Ben and Josh all had colds that drained them of energy but really ran through the effects of their colds to turn in impressive performances.
The Cross Country team will be in action again on Thursday, September 29 in East Grand Forks.
