Trap Club Has Successful First Year

from last spring/summer!

Clearbrook-Gonvick School took part in the MN State High School League's Trap Season for the first time in the spring of 2017.  The season started in early April and ran approximately 7 weeks with the season culminating at the Trap Shooting Championship in Alexandria on June 12th, 2017.  The two practice weeks and 5 competition weeks took place at Ruffy Brook Shooting Preserve near Clearbrook.  Scores from each week were entered in to an online database which served as competition with other schools.  For the 2017 season, Clearbrook-Gonvick School opened up the opportunity to 9th-12th Graders and had 6 people on the team including: Mike Gray, Ty Nelson, Trevor Rogstad, Morgan Cornell, Brandon Quern and Reece Danielson.

Ty Nelson, Brandon Quern and Reece Danielson competed at the Championship in Alexandria.  At the championship, competitors were classed, based on their season average, as Novice, Junior Varsity or Varsity.  Ty Nelson and Brandon Quern competed as Novice and Reece Danielson competed as Junior Varsity.  Ty Nelson tied four ways for 1st place in the Novice division but due to the method of tie breaking, he ended in 4th place.  Brandon Quern tied for 8th place.  There were a total of 143 shooters in the Novice Division.  Reece Danielson placed 142 out of 261 in Junior Varsity.

Many thanks to those who donated time and money to make this season a success.  Some of those donors included: Tom Pletschett Memorial Trap Tournament, Gully area Sportsman's Club and North Country Hardware.  The Clearbrook-Gonvick Trap Team was coached by Andy Anderson and assisted by Greg Erickson, Vern Wittenberg, David Quern and Amy Berg.
